Offering a taste of the versatility of Subaru’s new age of SUVs, the Subaru Crosstrek was introduced in 2012 as a successor to the Outback Sport. It joins the Subaru Outback as one of the automaker’s sporting vehicles that are suited for overlanding. The Crosstrek also has an attractive starting price, especially for those looking for a more affordable crossover vehicle. It is produced as a compact crossover SUV and has become one of Subaru’s best-selling models. Since 2017, annual US sales have surpassed 100,000 units.
The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is produced under the model’s third generation with a mild refresh. Five trim options are available: base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Wilderness. The base engine is a 2-liter flat-four that produces 152 hp and 145 pound-feet of torque. Upgrading to the higher trims gets you a 2.5-liter powertrain that makes 182 hp and 178 pound-feet of torque. The Crosstrek is also excellent on gas, with the base model getting 27 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined. All Crosstrek models are in all-wheel drive (AWD).
What Is Special About the Subaru Crosstrek?
The Subaru Crosstrek is an SUV that provides the perfect blend of comfort and performance for anyone who wants to have both but at a reasonable price. In particular, the Wilderness package provides special off-roading capabilities for those willing to spend an additional $7,000. The 2025 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness offers the highest lift among all Crosstrek models, with a 9.3-inch ground clearance. Other overlanding features include its all-season tires, an eight-speed manual shift mode, lockup torque converter, snow and mud driving modes, and incline start assist. The Wilderness package also provides decent towing capabilities, pulling as much as 3,500 pounds.
When to Replace Subaru Crosstrek Brakes
The Subaru Crosstrek comes with disc brakes for the front and rear. In disc brakes, the brake pads are often the ones that wear out earliest, usually between 30,000 to 70,000 miles. When stopping distances start to seem longer or a grinding noise (metal-to-metal contact) ensues when you step on the brakes, consider replacing the pads or rotors.
